The Geological Society of Maine is a non-profit organization dedicated to geological issues and education in Maine. The Society has a membership of 200 professionals in the state and elsewhere including members from private companies, academic institutions, and state and federal government. The Society considers current geological issues facing the state through regular meetings and fieldtrips. Student participation in these activities is emphasized and encouraged.

The Walter Anderson Fund was founded in 1995 in recognition of Walter Anderson, State Geologist Emeritus, and will be used to support student activities in the society, such as recognition of outstanding student papers at the annual spring meeting of the society.

Contributions to this important educational program can be made by check made out to the "Geological Society of Maine" and sent to the President or Treasurer of the society. All contributions are tax deductible.
