What to expect on this field trip

The 2022 GSM summer field trip will be held on July 23rd-24th in the beautiful Midcoast area (Camden through St. George). Field stops will cover a variety of topics including recent bedrock mapping and geochronology work, glaciation, mass wasting, coastal geomorphology and a historic quarrying district.

The trip will include a stop at Dragon Cement limestone quarry; the first 40 registrants are guaranteed access, with a nearby alternative activity planned for additional registrants

Where to stay & activities

Group camping is available at Camden Hills State Park for Saturday night. We have also reserved a smaller group site for attendees that wish to stay Friday night. A parking pass to the park is included if you are registered to camp. There are many other accommodations in the Camden area if you prefer not to camp or you may live close enough to Camden that you prefer to drive from home on Saturday and Sunday mornings. A total of 45 campsites are reserved for the weekend. The first 45 members to apply will be guaranteed a site; we will work with additional registrants if numbers exceed 45, but regret that additional sites are not guaranteed.

A dinner will be provided on Saturday night at Camden Hill State Park. Please note that if you are not planning on camping, but would like to attend the dinner you will need to purchase a parking pass when entering the park. Passes cost $4 for Maine residents, $6 for non resident, $2 for senior non resident, Maine Seniors > 65 are free, Children 5-11 $1.00, children <5 are free.
